My Daddy had many lessons for us but one of them is that he taught us to take pride in ourselves & in what we have. He believed you should buy things that are new - and not used - if we could, then clean it, maintain it, and to really take pride in it.  

He did that with the houses we lived in, the yard he landscaped, the cars he drove. He had the backseats of the Oldsmobiles he drove with so much Armorall that my friends and I would slide around if he took a turn too quickly. 

Our Dad liked to race when he was younger, he liked NASCAR & he liked cars. He would work on cars when we were growing up, not repairing them usually only cleaning em up, detailing them, polishing them. He would only come in from the garage in time to eat dinner together as a family, which I really miss when I look back. 

My dad had the best tan in the family because he loved working outside on the yard. He thoroughly enjoyed creating beautiful landscapes of different rocks, and brick. He made flowerbeds, and outlined them with stone borders & he made every side of our house look good. I think all of us girls share his love of making our home beautiful with stone, & flowers. 

I recently remembered how he told me that “there ain’t any sense in” going to a gym when there are plenty of things to do around the house.  And he talked like that…things like “there ain’t any sense in that”

I smile thinking of the expressions he had like “plum silly.” And now When he said  that something was “plum STUPID” it sounded so harsh it was the closest he got to cursing.. 

He was such a good Daddy. He worked hard everyday at the Harris County Flood Control. A good memory I have is him letting me go with him to inspect a bayou. He gave me some rainboots that went up to my knees & a flashlight. There was a huge black pipe that we walked inside to inspect for leaks. It was a little scary but I was made to feel safe from my Daddy being next to me.

There are too many memories to even note, but I will never forget when my pawpaw would pick me up from Montessori School just about every day. He would always reach behind his seat and try and grab my legs (he knew it irked me so much). He would also point out every unique thing we saw on the drive home. From a cat in a window, to statue frogs in someone’s yard. Just about every day, he also would tickle me til I cried. As I grew older and would come over, there was always something he would record on TV that he just had to show me. He’d say “come sit down, let me show you something.” He was always teaching me little life lessons as I got older. He would call this “learning me something,” rather than “teaching me something.” I will forever hold on to these memories and cherish them forever. Until we meet again, I love you.

I worked with Larry at Harris County Flood Control District for over 20 years.  When I was the Secretary to the Construction Department, I would see Larry every morning before he and other Inspectors left to go check on job sites.  Larry always had a funny story or something humorous to say that always made me laugh.  He was conscientious about doing a good job and dependable.  Larry was a cheerful person who people liked to be around.  When I think of Larry, I remember his positive attitude and good nature.  May his family find comfort in knowing Larry was liked by so many.  

I have known Larry for 52 years.  We met when I worked with Brenda and became friends.  They both became like family to me.   I never in all those years saw Larry without a smile & laughter.  He was a great Husband, Father and Grandfather.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.  God cares, listens, understands loss and reassures us we will see our dear loved one again.... in a much better place and time. Be strong in your Lord and He will direct you’re paths and comfort your hurting heart and get you through it. I promise because He promises! Romans 8:28.  Sending our love, Tim & Patricia
