Kirk Lane Worley passed away on Saturday, the 17th of January, 2015 and entered the Kingdom of God. Kirk was born on November 24, 1970 in Pasadena, Texas, the youngest of three children of Jerry W. Worley and Carolyn Ross Worley. Kirk fought a long and brave battle against appendiceal cancer with the strength of his faith in Jesus Christ and the support of his friends and family. Many who knew him did not know of his illness because he lived his entire life to the fullest degree.
Kirk attended Pearland High School where he excelled in academics, art, football, and basketball. He graduated from Texas A & M University in 1993 with a degree in Business Administration and from The University of Houston Law Center in 1996 with a Juris Doctorate. Kirk joined the law firm Haynes and Boone in 1996 and eventually became a partner in the Business Litigation Section in the Houston office. Recognized numerous times as a Texas Rising Star Lawyer and a Texas Super Lawyer, Kirk was passionate about his legal practice and business, specializing in energy litigation, international litigation, and banking litigation. Kirk maintained his grade school friendships throughout his lifetime and included his co-workers and clients within his close circle of friends. He was a man dedicated to his legal craft and willing to mentor others along the way, not just in the practice of law, but by teaching them to live life intentionally with a positive impact and high ethical standards.
Kirk will be remembered for his optimism, kindness, sense of humor, and love of adventure. His favorite hobbies and activities included international travel, wine, golf, skiing, running, motorcycles, teaching children’s Sunday school and, most of all, watching his children play sports. Kirk is survived by his wife Cheryl, two young children Christopher and Paige, parents Jerry and Carolyn Worley, brother Kevin Worley and sister-in-law Susan, sister Karen Jacobs, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Baylor Medical Clinic, Vitas Hospice, Kirk’s critical care nurses, and to everyone in the Grace Manor family who helped Kirk.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at The Woodlands United Methodist Church, Robb Chapel, 2200 Lake Woodlands Drive, The Woodlands, Texas 77380, with interment immediately following at Forest Park The Woodlands Cemetery, 18000 I-45 North, The Woodlands, Texas 77384. A reception will be held afterwards at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home.
In lieu of other remembrances, the family requests that contributions be considered for M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in memory of Kirk L. Worley. M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Development Office, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, Texas 77210-4486, ph. 713-792-3450.
