To honor Jose’s memory, we will be holding a celebration of his life on November 4th, 2023, at 2pm located at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home & Cemetery. We invite anyone who knew him to attend and remember his wonderful life by honoring him, wearing anything you choose. Black attire is not required.
Jose Miguel was born on January 21st, 1944, to Jose Cubero Blass and Juanita Flores in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
Jose attended La Universidad de Nuevo Leon where he played as the quarterback for the university football team and ran track for the university track team as well. He earned two master’s degrees in Agricultural Engineering with a focus in animal husbandry.
Throughout his illustrious life, Jose received several recognitions. To name a few, he was selected as a sprinter for the 1968 Mexican Olympic Team (which he respectfully passed, choosing to marry the love of his life instead); he held a 100m record for La Universidad de Nuevo Leon for 50 years; and, recently, he was recognized for his outstanding participation as a coach for the Gorillas Salvajes by the Mexico National Hall of Fame for Football. However, he infamously always said that the greatest accomplishment of his life was the loving family he created with his wife.
On April 22nd, 1968, Jose married his darling and love of his life Maria Alicia Landeros in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Throughout their 55 years of marriage, the couple raised their three children across various locations. They resided in Monterrey, NL; Matamoros, TA; Brownsville, TX; Corpus Christi, TX; and, lastly, The Woodlands, TX.
Before his passing, Jose often fondly reminisced with his family about his childhood years. Recalling times when he would jump on the ends of the Coca-Cola trucks and help pass out his favorite beverage among his community; spend time with his childhood best friend/brother, Melchor Garza; and serenade his wife while courting her. He was an avid fisherman, adored the outdoors, and was a fan of America’s Team—The Dallas Cowboys—and Los Tigeres soccer team. Until his end of days, Jose did what he loved best: worked with verdure, enjoyed nightly novelas with his wife, and loved his family dearly.
Our beloved Papatito is survived by his wife—Maria Alicia Landeros de Cubero; his children—Alicia Cubero–Ivandario Garcia, Brenda Cubero, and Jose Cubero–Katrina Afanaseva; his grandchildren—Isabel Garcia Cubero, Andres Garcia Cubero, Marcelo Garcia Cubero, Charlie Cubero, Blake Cubero, and Zoe Cubero; his sister–Maria del Pilar Cubero de Trevino–Arnulfo Trevino; and his nephews–Arnulfo Trevino Cubero, Jose Trevino Cubero Enrique Trevino Cubero, and Caesar Trevino Cubero.
Special thank you to Jose’s loving family and friends for keeping him in their thoughts and prayers. He was a beautiful soul inside and out, touching the lives of those around him. Although he will be missed profoundly, his memory will forever live on in our hearts.
