Jim Lander passed away peacefully on November 27, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was born February 27, 1935 in Elsmore, KS to Carroll (Kelly) and Mildred Lander. He graduated from Elsmore High School in 1952 where he was a starter on a very competitive basketball team in the 1950’s. He went on to enlist in the army where he continued to play basketball spending most of his time on deployment in Japan during the Korean War. After returning home from the army in 1956, Jim and Patricia were married and Jim continued college graduating with a B.S. in business in 1961.
Jim accepted an offer from Shell Oil in 1961 and enjoyed a successful career highlighted by advancement and relocation throughout the 1960’s and 1970’s. Jim worked for Shell Oil for 32 years retiring in 1993. Jim and Pat built a beautiful home on the golf course at Lake Conroe, TX where retirement began. Jim remained active in retirement playing golf and spending time with his grandchildren. Jim and Patricia were married for 64 years, had two children, Lon Lander and Brenda Legg and two grandchildren Stephen Legg and Christopher Legg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his older sister, Jean Helm.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Lander, two children, Lon Lander and Brenda Legg, two grandchildren, Stephen Legg and Christopher Legg, son-in-law, Michael Legg and daughter-in-law, Selene Lander. A private family service will be held in Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations to the Dementia Society of America https://www.dementiasociety.org/ or a charity of their choosing.
