Bob J Hoff “Dad” passed away, leaving us to go to a better place but knowing this was a job well done. Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Mentor, Christian and American. Job well done. He left a legacy to friends, family and colleagues which we can learn from and pay forward.
He was born January 24, 1932 to Daniel Edgar and Sarah Pearl Hoff in Greenville,Texas. His beloved “Coco” helped raise him to be the man we knew and loved.
“The real man smiles in trouble, gathers strength from distress and grows brave by reflection.” This quote by Thomas Paine, one of the founding fathers of this country fits him. Dad was a real man.
He left home at 16 and joined the Navy. He forged his parents signature and began a life long love of serving his country and traveling the world.
While boxing in the Golden Gloves, aboard ship in the Korean War and by answering the call when the CIA asked him to help during the Cold War.
His love of people, his mathematical mind and his general curiosity of everything served him well in his business life. He worked with great men and woman all over the world and treasured the friendships he had there. Working into his 80s still traveling to the shows that he loved.
He was a collector.
His rocks, coins, the knives and things collected from his childhood and travels always displayed prominently. And the stories... oh the stories. How we will miss his stories! Even the ones that began “I know I’ve told you this one before but I like it so I want to hear it again.”
He loved his instrumental music, Elvis and Chet, and if he didn’t make you listen to Malagueña, know he wanted you to...
Dad was a gentle giant, an oak that would not bend and a champion for anyone who needed him.
He met Virginia “his beautiful bride”
in the late 70’s, sitting at her table ordering the same steak every Tuesday until he finally asked her out. What an adventure began then!
He met his best friend, his partner and the love of his life. Cassy, Kenny and Holly are all grateful they did!
He is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings J.C., Betty, Billy, and his twin Mary Lou. He is survived by his brother Norman his sister Martha. His bride Virginia, son Kenny, daughters Lisha, Holly and Chip Meade and Cassy. Grandson Justin and AnNicole Meade, Great Granddaughter Piper, and his many nieces and nephews.
Dad will be remembered for his patriotism, loyalty, fierce pride, integrity, strength and grit. We will miss that laugh, the stories, the smile and the hugs.
Dad lived by his own set of rules and today we honor and respect him, letting him go by following his wishes.
He loved each of us dearly. Here is a smooch, a blue flower and a cup of coffee Dad!
