Elaine, daughter of Clara and Paul Solomon, was born on February 11, 1934 in Marshall, Missouri. She grew up on the family farm as one of ten children. After high school, following in the footsteps of some of her siblings, Elaine left the farm for the big city--Kansas City.
She obtained a masters degree in nursing at St. Mary’s College, and both practiced and taught nursing.
Elaine met Hubert Willman at the Rockhurst Discussion Club, and they were married May 1, 1965. They celebrated their 59th anniversary last year.
The newly married couple moved to New York where Elaine worked while Hubert studied tax law at New York University.
Elaine and Hubert welcomed their three children, George, Krista and Monica, while living on the east coast (Baltimore and Pittsburg). The family then lived for about a decade in the midwest before heading out to California.
Elaine was a dedicated wife and mother. She was involved with her children’s schools and activities (e.g., school nurse, scout leader), until they launched into college, grad school and professions.
Elaine volunteered with and served in leadership roles in various charitable and social organizations. For many years she supported and was on the organizing committee of the Festival of Trees in Silicon Valley, raising funds for autism research. She gave her time generously to numerous other organizations including the Museum at Blackhawk.
Later, Elaine joined the Blackhawk Chorus, where she made many great friends, and sang beautiful music throughout the Bay Area and as far as the Vatican.
Though she loved living in California for approximately 37 years, when the opportunity came to get the home across from her daughter in Texas, Elaine and Hubert took it. Elaine enjoyed having a lot more time with the grandchildren.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Harold Solomon, Maurice Soyer, and James Solomon and Grandson Jake Hampton.
Elaine is survived by her husband Hubert Willman, sisters Irene Quigley, Helen Newman, Mary Yates and Catherine Sanderson and brothers Peter Solomon and Lawrence Solomon as well as her children George Willman, Krista Willman Formica, and Monica Willman Hampton, son-in-laws Wallis Hampton and Joseph Formica, and grandchildren Natalie Hampton, Nicole Hampton, Elaina Formica, and Paul Formica and many loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Elaine will be held Wednesday, March 20, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home & Cemetery, 18000 Interstate 45 S, The Woodlands, TX 77384. There will then be a committal service and reception.
