William H. "Bill" Norwood

William H. " Bill" Norwood, age 84, of Texarkana, Texas passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2023. Bill was born March 26, 1939 in Brownstown, AR. He graduated from Mineral Springs High School in 1957. He was a 4 year letterman in football and baseball and a 3 year letterman in basketball. Bill attended Ouachita Baptist University on a football scholarship and also played baseball. He graduated from OBU in 1961. Bill was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving for two years and started coaching in the mid-60's. Bill coached for 45 years. He was chosen by the Texas High School Baseball Association All-Star Committee to coach the North Texas All-Stars in 2004 and was inducted into the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2012. Bill was a member of Beech Street Baptist Church.

Bill loved the Lord Jesus, he loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He was an exceptional coach and mentor to his students, fellow educators, umpires and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jon Norwood in 2012;. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Mittie Hallmark Norwood, and his siblings, Gladys Barton, Houston Norwood, Paul Norwood, Opal Green, Lula Douthit, M. J. Norwood, Lorene Keesee, Nell McPherson, and Douglas Norwood.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Marianne Norwood of Texarkana, TX; daughters and son-in-law, Laquita Ensminger of Little Rock, AR and Angela and Scott Dorel of Woodland Hills, CA; stepchildren, Cynthia Owen and George McCartney of Houston, TX and Chris and Michelle Owen of The Woodlands, TX; sister, Donnie Duke of Liberty, MO; 5 grandchildren, William Patrick Norwood, Victoria Norwood, Lindsey (Jaye) Spradlin, Aidan Dorel and Bella Dorel; 1 great grandchild, Beau Spradlin; a number of nieces, nephews and many friends.

Services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Beech Street Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Chaffin officiating. Burial will be in Mineral Springs Cemetery, Mineral Springs, AR under the direction of East Funeral Home - Moores Lane.

A visitation will be held Saturday, July 1, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Beech Street Baptist Church, 601 Beech Street, Texarkana, AR, followed by a church service at 1:00 PM.
