Mrs. Cox was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas and attended Fountain Lake High School and the University of Arkansas graduating in 1960. She then came to Texarkana and met her husband and married August 5th, 1961 where Porter, Kevin and Shana were born. A. P. built a house in Mandeville where they have lived ever since.
Shirley was a housewife until she became involved with Joyce Varner in " Something Special " catering business. After 10 years she was hired by the Texarkana Arkansas school district to become the food service director which she did for the next 22 years. Shirley was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, Texarkana, Arkansas.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years Alwin Porter Cox Jr., Son ( Alwin ) Porter Cox III of Texarkana, Arkansas, Son and daughter-in-law; Kevin and Annette Cox of Richardson, Texas and daughter and son-in-law; Shana and Dr. Dan Martin of Texarkana, Arkansas and a sister Barbara McSpadden of Missouri.
Also left to cherish her memory are her three beloved grandchildren Emily Martin, Chris Martin and Jacob Martin.
Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 11th, 2024 at Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Jaimie Alexander officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Monday, June 10th, 2024 at East Funeral Home-Downtown.
