Bruce was born September 12, 1947, in Clarksville, Texas. He graduated from Texas High School in 1966 and attended Texarkana Community College. He was a master electrician and owner of Townes Electric Company.
Bruce never met a stranger. He considered all of his multitude of friends, who knew him as “Rattler”, as close friends. When someone needed help, he would be the first to volunteer. Bruce enjoyed nothing more than making people laugh. He was a good storyteller and always had a joke for you. One of the highlights of family functions was he and his brother Dean taking turns telling each other jokes for an hour or two straight without missing a beat. Bruce was an avid deer and hog hunter and enjoyed fishing, woodwork, and sketching. His neighbors could count on seeing him every morning sitting on the front porch with a cup of coffee and a crossword puzzle. Bruce was a 32nd degree Mason and of the Baptist faith. He was involved in community affairs and was a strong supporter of law enforcement.
Bruce will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lona Townes, brothers Dale and Dean Townes, and sister, Martha Gail Hale. Survivors include his children, Ronnie and Stacie; 3 grandchildren, Brittini, Sammie and Mickie; 5 great-grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law, Jimmie Carolyn and Ray Gene Suggett, Texarkana, AR; sister, Brenda Maxey Guthrie, Texarkana, AR; and sister-in-law, Judy Townes, Texarkana, TX.
Viewing will be 10:00 – 11:45 a.m. at East Funeral Home on Moores Lane, and graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. at East Memorial Gardens in Texarkana, AR on Monday, November 6, 2023.
