Rena was born in Fouke, Arkansas on July 10th, 1944. She was a long time member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. She was married to the love of her life Leon Akin for 45 years until his death in 2005. Rena was a hairdresser in the Texarkana area for many years. She loved to travel the world with her husband on the pipeline where she made countless friends along the way. Rena loved spending time with her family and friends. Her two sons Rodney and Darrell, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren were her life. Rena loved the outdoors you could find her in the spring at the lake with her family camping and fishing. It was always fun to watch the contest on who would catch the most and largest fish. It was rumored she was never beat! In the fall you could find her at the Flanagan deer camp where she took up residence for the entire season. Her boys Rodney and Darrell always made sure she was set up and ready to go. Many times they never made it to their stand before she was hollering, she had one down. She came close on a few occasions of capturing the triple crown where she harvested a deer with her bow, muzzleloader and her rifle. It seems the boys could never find that last deer.
Rena loved the holidays because all her family were together.
Rena never missed a sister luncheon where they celebrated a sisters birthday and to reminisce of all the great memories that they had shared.
Rena was the most welcoming and generous lady, and she never met a stranger. She especially loved having friends and family at her home for every holiday. Rena was always the life of any gathering right up to her 80th birthday party. Everyone was welcome and everyone enjoyed playing games.
Rena was preceded in death by her parents Shirley and Eveline Carper, her husband Leon Akin, Son Rodney Akin, Daughter-in-law Melody Akin and brother Mickey Carper.
