Donald Wayne Barton

Donald Wayne Barton, age 89, of Texarkana, Arkansas passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024, after facing a fearless battle with dementia. Mr. Barton was born January 11, 1935 in Brownfield, TX. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retired Army, and recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. He was a faithful member of Hickory Street Baptist Church, Texarkana, AR.

He was preceded in death by his lovely wife and best friend, Retha L. Barton. He is survived by his sons Nolan Barton (Cheryl) of Cave Springs, AR; Kirby Barton (Sarah) of Springdale, AR; and daughter Janeen Thacker (Charles) of Texarkana, AR. Survivors also include grandsons Benjamin Thacker (Terra); Tyler Barton; Braedan Barton; and granddaughter Emily Reed (Tanner). Mr. Barton was delighted to become a great-grandfather with his great-grandchildren being Adam and Alice Thacker, and Holly and Silas Reed. Mr. Barton is survived by his baby sister Maxine Shupp of Millsap, TX, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Service will be 10:00 am Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Hickory Street Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Strebeck officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens under the direction of East Funeral Home, Downtown.
