DEVOTED WIFE, MOTHER & GRANDMOTHER
Billie Caldwell, 77, of Texarkana, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at her home. Billie was born November 17, 1933, in Apple Springs, Texas. She grew up in Lufkin, TX, became a cheerleader and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree. Billie’s ability to organize, gain consensus, and manage finances led her to become the matriarch of her family — and a true renaissance woman.
Devoted, strong and hardworking. Billie took care of her husband, children, grandchild and home, with a passionate dedication. She was also a first grade teacher for more than 20 years and derived great satisfaction from teaching children how to read, count and “pay attention in class”. Her love of teaching carried over to Sunday school in many churches.
Billie retired from education to become owner of a successful antique store, and later joined her husband as former owner of Loveall Music Company. She was known for her interior decorating creativity and the ability to turn a chair at an angle and arrange items to bring out the true beauty of a room. Her other passion was cooking “the very best meals for family and friends”… it was always Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner at Billie’s. Her green thumb, too, earned her praises. She loved to travel, guiding her family around the U.S. (from California to New York City) and Europe, and was particularly fond of the beaches of the West Coast, Hawaii, Costa Rica, Mexican Rivera, Mediterranean and Caribbean Islands.
Survivors include her husband Kenneth Caldwell; son, Victor Caldwell, Jr.; daughter, Stacia Glenn; and granddaughter, Peyton Elizabeth Glenn, who all live in Texarkana, TX. Preceding her in death were here brother, Kenneth Childress, and son-in-law, Mark Glenn. Billie’s families include Banks, Childress, Childers, Glenn, Ingram, Roark, Slusher and Smith. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 6th at East Funeral Home, 2807 Moores Lane, Texarkana. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Peyton Glenn Educational Fund, at Edward Jones, 3314 Richmond Road, Texarkana, TX 75503.
