John Douglas Bell Sr., 74, of Terre Haute, passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at his residence.
He was born on July 19, 1946 in Clarksville, Tennessee to James Howard Bell and George Ella Bell.
John was a phenomenal man and a dedicated father who loved spending his free time with his family and friends. He was a kind hearted and giving person who could bring laughter to any occasion with his unique ability to tell a story. John was also an avid sports lover. He enjoyed watching basketball, boxing, tennis, and ping-pong.
John moved to Terre Haute at an early age. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson Jr. High and preceded onto Wiley High School. After attending High School, John joined the Marine Corp. He served in Vietnam and received numerous accommodations as a sharp-shooter. After his tour of military duty, John was employed by Eli Lilly for 30 years as a Chemical Operator until his retirement.
John is preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Clarence E. Bell and James H. Bell Jr.
John is survived by his wife, Pearl Bell; children, John D. Bell Jr., Terrence Lamont Bell, Shannon Coulter; stepchildren, Tracey Roberts, Karen Mcgoffney, Kevin Mcgoffney, and Boyd Higginbotham; grandchildren, Dominque Bell, Brittany Morris, Chandra Bell, Porscha Love, Wilson Bell, Darlene Bell, and Terrence Bell Jr.; 18 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Jessie Mae Rasor, Margaret L. Haggerty and Patricia C. Neely (Travis); along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home on Friday, April 2 from 11am-1pm. Funeral service will follow at 1pm. Burial will take place at Stewart Lawn Cemetery in Lost Creek Township.
