James Carson Cutter, 90 of Terre Haute, IN passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on  Tuesday July 23, 2024. James fondly known as Jim was born in Coin, Iowa to Carl Amos Cutter and Martha Alice Cutter on July 7th, 1934. Jim was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served in the Korean War. He served from 1952 – 1960 aboard the USS Elokomin A0-55. During his service, he met his wife, Dorothy Ruth Honey at a USO dance in Boston, MA. They were wed on July 30, 1955 in Somerville, MA. He was retired from the U.S. Federal Penitentiary after 27 years of serving in Danbury CT, Sandstone, MN and Terre Haute, IN. Jim was a member of the Noon Optimist Club, Eighth Avenue Baptist Church and a longtime member of the Mobile Missionary Assistance Program (MMAP) where he coordinated building projects while traveling with his wife in their RV. Jim was a talented carpenter and enjoyed building homes, making gifts and helping his family. He loved word puzzles, cooking, yard work, gardening, teaching Sunday school and feeding the birds and squirrels. Jim is survived by his four children Kenneth (Cindy) Cutter of Terre Haute, IN; Stephen (Laura) Cutter of Tell City, IN; Karen (William) Davis of Terre Haute, IN; Rhonda Stevens of Terre Haute, IN; two sisters, Elizabeth Summers of Bolivar MO; and Joy Farnsworth of Tulsa OK; a brother, Charles Cutter of Wichita KS; eleven grandchildren, Jamie (Robert) Guillaume, Crystal (Jared) Dougherty, Jennifer Zeitlow, Julie (Terance) Smith, Scott (Heather) Templeton, Ryan (Maryann) Davis, Kensie (Adam) Conner, Mathew Conder, Kristen (Jacob) Harrison, Brooke Templeton and Michelle Conder; and twenty three great-grandchildren.  Jim is preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothy Cutter, parents Carl and Martha Cutter, brother Jerry Cutter, sisters Patricia Fredrickson and Martha Smith, son-in-law Malcolm Conder and grandson Michael Conder. Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Monte Vincent officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home. Memories may be shared with the family at www.MattoxWood.com.
