George Thomas Woodason, Junior, 87 passed away peacefully at his home on March 22, 2015, George was born in the Bronx, New York, on September 25, 1927, to George T. Woodason and Adeline Woodason. He graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School # 57 in the Bronx, and at the age of 18 entered the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, where he worked at the pentagon. During the war he began attending church, and after the war he entered David Lipscomb College, in Nashville, Tennessee. George became a Christian in 1951 and graduated from Lipscomb in 1953. In 1955 he received his master’s degree from George Peabody College. His degrees were in educations and bible. He was a minister of the gospel for over 50 years. He also worked in education throughout his career, mostly as a math teacher at Otter Creek Junior High School, but also as a principal at Davis Park and Prairieton Elementary Schools.
George married his wife, Shirley (Wade) Woodason, from Owensboro, Kentucky, on November 26, 1953, and they permanently relocated to Terre Haute, Indiana. George and Shirley have six children: Shelley A. Sutherland (Mike); twins, Richard A. Woodason (Amy) and Robert A. Woodason (Kim); Thomas G. Woodason (Kelly); John D. Woodason (Janna); Keith J. Woodason (Caroline); all of whom are still living. George and Shirley have 17 grandchildren: Angela Sensing, Jason Sutherland, Matthew Woodason, Seth Woodason, Jacob Woodason, David Woodason, Andrew Woodason, Drew Woodason, Bryce Woodason, Sydney Woodason, Christy Woodason, Jocelyn Woodason, Kevin Woodason, Benjamin Woodason, Andrea Baron, Nathan Woodason, and Lucas Woodason. There are currently 10 great-grandchildren, with many more to come.
Services will be Tuesday at 6:00 PM with a visitation Tuesday from 3:00-6:00 PM. Officiating will be ministers: Bobby Wade, Brother-in-law of George and Richard Woodason, George’s son. Online condolences may be made at www.roselawnfuneralhome.com
