Betty Jane Doty

Betty Jane Doty, 91, of Terre Haute, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2014, at Meadows Manor East, surrounded by her family. She was born on December 31, 1922, in Brazil, to Grant and Mabel (Hodge) Sutton. She married Robert E. Doty. Betty worked for many years as a Unit Secretary in the maternity ward at St. Anthony’s Hospital. She was a member of Central Christian Church.

Betty enjoyed traveling and being on-the-go. She enjoyed mushroom hunting in the spring. Betty liked to work puzzles and read in her spare time. She was an excellent cook and her fried chicken and coconut cream pies were among the favorite dishes of her family. Betty doted on her grandchildren. Most of all, she cherished the time she spent with her family and friends.

Betty is survived by her children: Nola Jane Blueher of Brazil; Grant E. Doty and his wife Becky of Plainfield; and Timothy M. Doty and his wife Sonya of West Terre Haute; step-daughter-in-laws, Mary Doty of West Terre Haute and Judy Doty of Sullivan; a brother, Robert G. Sutton of Danville; 8 grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert; step-sons, Robert W. and Gary A. Doty; and a sister, Nola Belle Tucker.

Visitation will be held from 11 until 2 on Monday, March 17 at Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, at the funeral home, with Pastor Rebecca Zelensky officiating.
