Anita Oswald, 78, of Terre Haute, was greeted in Heaven by the many dogs and cats she rescued over the course of seventeen years. She was born on December 19, 1939, in Wheatland, Indiana to Royce and Annabelle (Valin) Reel.
Anita is survived by a daughter; sister, Joyce Bailey of Terre Haute; brother, Jerry Reel of Albuquerque, NM; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Oswald; and sisters, Sue Reel and Shirley Reel.
Anita graduated from Gerstmeyer High School in 1958. She worked for 30 years at Recipe/Doxsee Foods. Anita was a co-founder of Harmony Haven and served as the director for 17 years. She loved animals and devoted most of her time to rescuing and caring for them. Her compassion and generosity saved the lives of countless animals. When she wasn’t at the shelter, Anita could be found working on her homes or in the yard.
Visitation will take place from 11 to 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 10 at Roselawn Funeral Home. A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, at the funeral home with Pastor Rick Swan officiating. Anita will be laid to rest at a later date in Roselawn Memorial Park.
