Terry Coyne, age 81, of Temple, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024 at a local hospital. He was born on September 25, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of John Albert and Juanita Irene (Robinson) Coyne.
Terry worked for 36 years at WilsonArt International retiring as the transportation supervisor, but that didn’t slow him down. He shifted gears from working on trucks to selling them for Freightliner of Temple. After that, he circled back to hauling supplies to neighboring states for his longtime friend at Bar J Trucking of Salado. Terry was a member of the King Solomon Masonic Lodge #1427 in Temple for 43 years, member and elder of First Presbyterian Church in Belton. He was a member of the statewide and Dallas area Fleet Maintenance Council of the Texas Motor Transportation Association. While serving as Chairman of the Fleet Maintenance Council, he received the 1993 Distinguished Award for Excellence in Maintenance. He was a committee member of TSTC’s Diesel and Heavy Duty Truck Advisory Committee in Waco. He also served as an Alderman on the City Council of Morgan's Point Resort. Terry and his wife Mary faithfully supported many non-profit organizations. They were founding members of the Police Officers Support Team (POST) of Morgan's Point Resort from 2001 to 2006 where he won many Chili Cook-Off competitions. Along with his sister-in-law Dean Baird, they both served in and supported the Abilene Lions’ Club. He was a lifetime member of the Temple Elks Lodge where he was awarded Elk of the Year in 1978 and Mary served alongside him as a member of the Does.
Terry loved his family and was a constant source of love, wisdom, and encouragement. He enjoyed being a little league baseball and softball coach for his kids. He was there for every game, extracurricular activity and supported their growth into adulthood. He was a constant in their lives and was a positive role model that helped them find their career paths and shaped who they are today. Terry loved spending time with his grandkids and his great-grandson and was proud of who they are and everything they have achieved. So many of his qualities were passed on to his kids, grandkids and great grandson including his love of animals. He received his first horse named Sugar for his 12th birthday. He then went on to raise Beagles as a teenager and young adult. Later in life, he and his wife bred and raised Akitas. He enjoyed activities with his family and friends such as trips to the coast, hunting, fishing, attending car, truck and tractor shows and playing golf where he carded two holes in one.
His advice, jokes and kindness were conveyed while ‘taking a break’ on his front porch. He did everything in life with a calm, humble Christ-like attitude that made any adventure with him enjoyable.
He was a phenomenal person, and his greatness laid in his steady and unwavering faith and dedication to those he loved. He shaped the lives of many around him, and in doing so leaves a legacy that is nothing but extraordinary.
Terry was preceded in death by his wife Mary, a daughter Terri Lea Cason, and his parents.
He is survived by his children, Christy Hood and husband Paul of Temple, Texas and Michael Coyne and wife Lori of Mansfield, Texas, 4 grandchildren, Mason Hood and wife Erin of Holland, Texas, Megan Hood of Temple, Texas, Kaylee Coyne of Mansfield, Texas and Loryn Coyne of Mansfield, Texas, and a great-grandson Pace Hood. Terry is also survived by a sister Nancy Cline of Burleson, Texas, several nieces and nephews, and his beloved beagle dog Bob.
A service and celebration of life to honor Terry will be held at 1:00 PM, September 14 at First Presbyterian Church of Belton. Terry enjoyed telling stories and having a good laugh about the many adventures he had throughout his life. After the service, there will be a celebration of Terry’s life in the Fellowship Hall to tell stories about him and share a laugh together.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Presbyterian Church of Belton, 2500 Church St., Belton, Texas 76513.
