Shirley Jean Schwartz, age 94, of Temple, Texas passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021. Shirley was born January 14, 1927 in Austin, TX to Thomas Pullman McClellan and Margaret Anna Benight. Shirley graduated from Austin High School in 1944. She attended the University of Texas. Shirley married Clarence Gene Schwartz on May 14, 1949. They moved to Waco in August of 1949 and then to Temple in 1958. She worked as an executive secretary. Shirley had a very active life, she taught dance at the Annette Duval School of Dance in Austin, she also taught ballroom dancing for Arthur Murray Dance Studio in San Antonio and owned and operated Shirley Jean Dance Studio for 7 years here in Central Texas. She was an Executive Staff Bluebonnet Girl Scout Council for 20 years and also worked for Service Vending, Inc. from 1986 to 2011. Shirley volunteered her time as a Girl Scout Leader, she was a PTA member and past President for Travis and Temple High School, she served as President, Chapter EW, P.E.O and was also a member and past President of the Rotary Club of Temple. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School and also helped out with Meals on Wheels. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Gene and one grandson, Casey D. Schwartz. She is survived by her children, Sally Curlee and husband Craig, Susie Carver and husband Dennis, Jim Schwartz and wife Denise, grandchildren, Amanda Jones Niki Chamberlin, Tiffany Jennings, Jackson Schwartz, Liza Schwartz, Samantha Schwartz, Sean Schwartz, great-grandchildren, Brenna Lara, Maia Deshotel, Brooklyn Jones, Craig Jones, Madeline Chamberlin, Anna Chamberlin, Reid Chamberlin, Matt Jones, Erik Jones, Amanda Jones, Trace Shepphard, Ethan Rodriguez, Levi Polanco and great-great grandchildren, Camila Curlee and Nicholas Isaias Lara. Memorials may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church Missions Temple. She will be greatly missed but we know she and Gene are dancing together for eternity.
