She was born on February 13, 1933 in Raymondville, Texas the daughter of Earl and Vada (Barnes) Faidley.
Ruth lived in and around Raymondville until 1946 when the Faidley family moved to Academy, Texas, where she completed her schooling and graduated as Valedictorian in 1950. She then attended Temple Junior College and the Scott and White Nursing Program.
Ruth met Arthur Lynn Maddux while she was going to nursing school and later married on October 4, 1951. They had four children together, a daughter, a son, and twin daughters.
She sewed all of the girls clothes as they grew up and made quilts for her grandchildren and other friends and family.
She was very creative, she made and decorated wedding cakes and was an excellent cook. Especially her Sunday roasts.
Ruth was a strong Christian woman and very active in her church, singing, teaching Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, was missionary President and was involved in senior adult ministries. She worked at Scott and White in the Allergy clinic for 25 years retiring in 1991. She was a Yellow Bird Volunteer at the hospital for many years afterwards. Also in 1991, she married longtime friend Dale Yates, Sr. after the deaths of both their spouses. Ruth and Dale had 17 wonderful years together, traveling with dear friends. One of their most memorable trips, was their trip to the Holy Land.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Arthur Maddux in 1989, her second husband Dale Yates. Sr. in 2008, two brothers, Russell and Allan Faidley, and four sisters, Eunice Hunter, Marilyn Horton, Pearl Wilder, and Phyllis Loucks.
She is survived by her four children, Carol McDaniel, Kenny Maddux, Karen Schlickeisen and husband Roy, and Sharen Kiesling and husband Keith, and two step-sons Dale Yates, Jr. and wife Vesta, and Leland Yates and wife Yumiko. She is also survived by two sisters Edith Ludwig and Edna Spinner and husband Dave, 12 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 10:00am at First Nazarene Church of Temple with Rev. Darin Pound and Rev. Don Boesel officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jason Schlickeisen, Jeremy Schlickeisen, Kevin Kiesling, Jeffrey Kiesling, Heath Scruggs, and great-grandson Colton Schlickeisen.
For the last three years of her life, Ruth lived at Stoney Brook Assisted Living in Belton, Texas. She was loved by everyone at Stoney Brook. The family wishes to especially thank all the nurses, caregivers, and staff that loved on her as if she was their own mother. The family also wishes to thank the Navigate Hospice Team, especially nurse Randy. They were so good to mom, are special to our family, and always kept us well informed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Nazarene Church of the Nazarene or to Stoney Brook Assisted Living in Belton.
