July 20, 1992 – November 10, 2018
Mary St. John was born in Mission, Texas, on July 20, 1992, the youngest of four children (and the only daughter!) to Anthony and Kimberly Mallette. They moved as a family to Crockett, Texas, in 1999. Mary professed faith in Christ and was baptized in Crockett when she was 12 years old.
Until their marriage in 2010, Mary and Elijah had lived within two (2) miles of each other most of their lives, and they went to the same church all of their lives!
Having been homeschooled, Mary graduated from high school in 2010, the same year that she and Elijah were married in Bryan, Texas. Elijah and Mary lived in Bryan until 2013, when they moved to Temple, Texas. Elijah and Mary joined Killeen Bible Church in December 2013, and they have been in happy fellowship there ever since.
God has blessed Mary and Elijah richly in their marriage, with Mary giving birth to two wonderful little girls—Bethany in 2011 in Bryan, and then Penelope in 2015 in Temple. Bethany, now seven (7), is currently enrolled as a student at the Central Texas Christian School in Temple, Texas.
As do many young housewives, Mary enjoyed reading and sewing, and then later, baking and scrapbooking. Mary had a profound, warm love for others, especially children—showing extreme compassion and generous, sacrificial care for those in need throughout her short life. She was particularly caring for her own two children, lavishing on them big-handedness normally reserved for grandparenting!
At the same time, she also enjoyed shooting her 9mm Walther CCP, and in 2013 she earned her concealed handgun license at age 21, the earliest civilians can get one in the State of Texas!
Despite her own chronic pain, Mary valiantly stood alongside her husband this summer as they started their own physical therapy clinic in Temple. She worked with Elijah through many long hours to get the business ready to launch. The clinic had its grand opening on October 1, 2018, only a month before Mary fell ill with what turned out to be a terminal liver failure. Just six (6) days after hospital admission, on November 10, 2018, at the age of 26, Mary peacefully passed into the presence of our Lord at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas, in the company of her family.
Mary is survived by her husband, Elijah, and their two daughters, Bethany and Penelope; Mary’s parents, Anthony and Kimberly Mallette of Crockett, Texas; and her brothers and their wives—Nathanael and Andrea Mallette of Tennessee, Bartholomew and Sharon Mallette of Crockett, Texas, and Obadiah and Sarah Mallette of Crockett, Texas.
Mary will be sorely missed by her husband and children, by her extended family and friends, and by her church, all of whom are trusting God for what lies ahead for the family. We believe in the statement that Abraham so aptly framed as a question in Genesis: “Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?” (Genesis 18:25)
