Manuel Melendez, age 80, of Belton, Texas formerly of El Paso, Texas passed away on Friday, November 8, 2024 at a local hospital. He was born on September 13, 1944 in El Paso, Texas the son of Fransico and Alejandra (Aragon) Melendez.
Manuel served his country in the United States Navy for 4 years then served with the United States Army and Army National guard retiring after 22 years of service. He was a former member of St. Raphael Catholic Church in El Paso and current member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Belton. After retiring from the service, Manuel worked for the El Paso Police Department in dispatch and as a record keeper for the case bank of Child Protective Services, also in El Paso.
He is survived by his wife Rose Mary Licon Melendez, children, Amelia Melendez-Quirk and husband Michael of Belton, Cassandra Melendez of Belton, Marl Melendez of El Paso, and Jimmy Melendez of El Paso, and 4 grandchildren, Lilly L. Rose Quirk of Belton, Violet Ember Quirk of Belton, Michelle Alexandra Melendez of El Paso, and Jacob Alexander Melendez of El Paso.. He is also survived by his sisters, Bertha Gonzalez and husband Jerry of El Paso and Cecilia Murphy of El Paso, and a brother Frank Melendez and wife Kim of El Paso.
Manuel was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law Jim Murphy.
