JEWEL MARIE DODD TALLEY, age 95, a resident of Alvin, Texas, died Sunday December 14, 2008, in Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital, Houston, Texas. She was born in Ben Arnold, Texas on March 17, 1913, was graduated from Rogers High School in May, 1931, and from Mary Hardin-Baylor University in Ausust, 1952. Jewel was loved by those whose lives she touched and was an inspiration to her family, friends and students. During her 39-year career as a public school teacher, she taught in Texas public schools in West Texas, Central Texas and South Texas, finishing her career in the Tuloso-Midway Independent School District as an elementary teacher. She was a member of the Westside Church of Christ, Alvin, Texas. Following her retirement in 1976, she lived in Temple, Texas and was a member of Western Hills Church of Christ. Prior to retirement she and her husband had resided in Robstown and Corpus Christi, Texas following their move from Temple in 1950. She was a native of Central Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Dodd and Rosa Dodd, her husband of 57 years, Ben Talley, her son Lynn Talley, her brothers, Hubert Dodd, Curtis Dodd, and her sister, Uda Fay Wheeler. Survivors include her son, Drue Talley of Alvin, her daughter-in-law Linda Talley of Alvin, her brother Wilburn Dodd of Waco, her sisters, Hazel Bolton and her husband, Bernam of Vilonia, Arkansas and Francis McDonald of Chattanooga, Tennessee, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. Pallbearers are Sydney Talley, Jason Talley, Eric Talley, Patrick Pratt, Nathaniel Flores and Evan Flores. Honorary Pallbearers are Andrew Talley and Hutson Hehemann. Services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Scanio Harper Funeral Home, 3110 Airport Rd., Temple, Texas 76504. Interment-Bellwood Memorial Park.
