Raymond "Ray" Charles Davis, age 88, of Chicago, Illinois, and Tampa, Florida, entered to rest on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. He was born April 7, 1936, in Chicago, the son of Verdis Davis and Joe Soria.
Ray was affectionately known to some as "Buster." Ray is a proud American Veteran. He served in the US Marine Corps and the US Air Force from 1954-1958. He proudly served for 33 years as a police officer and detective for the Chicago Police Department. Upon retirement, he became a business owner of several different interests. His greatest occupation has been his ministering of God's word.
In addition to being a father, husband, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, Ray was an artist, author, baseball player/coach, Chicago sports enthusiast, coin collector, photographer, antique collector, dog groomer, dog trainer, locksmith, cowboy, CB radio operator, traveler, minister, repairman, referee, business owner, and real estate salesman.
Ray sought out many religious and church experiences. He found his love of Christ and was baptized in 1984 at the Monroe Street Church of Christ. He naturally took to ministry and began preaching as often as he was invited in the Chicago Area. He often traveled to Tampa, Florida, and became a regular guest speaker. He was devoted to the Church of Christ and ideally teaching the faith by helping others grow spiritually.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly McCray. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jessie Davis; sons, Raymond Charles Davis, Jr. and Toby Williams; daughter, Sandra Martin and her husband Previn; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service for Ray will be held at 6 PM on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Blount & Curry, Terrace Oaks Chapel, 12690 N 56th St, Temple Terrace, FL 33617.
