TENNANT, Dr. Ralph B., 88, of Tampa, entered into rest Sunday, October 22, 2017. He was born September 8, 1929 in Gaffney, SC, the son of Christine and Boyd Tennant. After growing up in Tampa, he spent high school and early college years in Tampa as well as Charlotte, NC. Then, had military training at a Naval Academy before joining the U.S. Marine Corps. While attending University of Florida, he met Charlotte Walker and the two were married. He eventually landed at Emory Dental School before embarking on a 25-year career as a dentist in the Temple Terrace area. During his years as a dentist he also provided dental care to a variety of sports teams, including the King High School Lions, the University of Tampa Spartans, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Tampa Bay Rowdies, and the Cincinnati Reds. An avid golfer, he coached the King High Lions golf team to the school’s first state championship of any sport. Other hobbies included boating, cooking out, and snow skiing. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Charlotte McNabb and his son-in-law, Bob Murphy. Survivors include his loving wife, Charlotte Tennant; daughters, Cyndee Murphy, Christine Cox (Brandon) and Georgia Hagelstein (Edward); son, Ralph Tennant, II (Elaine); cousin, Robert Jones; grandchildren, Erin Crawford, Ryan Floyd, Savannah & Meghan Murphy, David & Michael McNabb, Nathan, Zachary & Samuel Tennant and Sebastian Hagelstein; and great-grandchildren, Abigail, Hannah, & Micah Floyd, Wyatt & Vander Crawford, Ira Paul Tennant, and David Brent McNabb. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Blount & Curry, Terrace Oaks Chapel. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell at a later date.
