Sandra Kaye Wright, born Sandra Schernik, departed this world on April 28, 2019. She was 69 years old. Sandy was born in Taylor, Texas on July 1, 1949 to Alice and Benjamin Schernik. She was joined just over a year later by her only sister, Karen Seeman. Sandy was known in her younger years for her love of the guitar, knitting, and her strong connection to her maternal grandmother, Gammie. After graduating high school, Sandy enjoyed working at First Taylor National Bank.
Sandy married Jasper Louis Wright of Granger in 1969. They were wed in Taylor and started a home there, remaining married until his death in November of 1997. She adored Jay and their family grew with two cherished children, Stephen born in 1977, followed by Phillip in 1981. Each of the children enjoyed their upbringing on George St. and shared many cherished memories from the time period.
After Stephen and Phillip began school, Sandy began working at the Department of Public Safety and often told many stories of her carpool gang of friends. In the mid-90s, she joined the accounting department at the University of Texas and retired in 2010. The rest of her years were spent at home in peace and quiet, soaking up books, watching her favorite TV shows, and doting on her three grandchildren when they came to visit.
Sandra was preceded in death by her husband J.L. Wright and is survived by her two sons, Stephen and wife Carrie of Nacogdoches, and Phillip of Houston. She was also the proud grandmother of Isaiah, August, and Addisyn. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 1 from 6pm-8pm at Condra Funeral Home and a Celebration of Life Service will take place on Thursday, May 2 at 10am Condra Funeral Home. Sandra’s final resting place is The Taylor City Cemetery alongside her beloved husband.
