Oscar Raesz, Jr, 92, of Taylor, Tx, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023.
Oscar was born in Belton, TX on 3/4/1930 to Oscar Raesz Sr and Augusta Lantzsch Raesz. He attended Austin High School, and received his GED while in the United States Air Force. When he was discharged from the Air Force, he went on to Nixon Clay Business College in Austin, TX. Later he attended IBM Customer Engineer school. He married Bonnie L Homann on November 29, 1952; they were married for 53 years. After Bonnie’s death, he married LaRue Rathke on February 14, 2008.
He worked for IBM and General Office Equipment for a number of years before opening his own business, Ace Typewriter Service with Bonnie. Oscar enjoyed gardening and woodwork. He also enjoyed a competitive game of dominoes. He was a member of South Austin and Buda Lions Clubs. He was involved with Boy Scouts of America as a Scout Master. Oscar was also a member of the VFW in Austin and Thorndale.
Oscar’s faith was a very important part of his life. As a member of St John’s Lutheran Church in Austin he was Church Council member for 2 years. Later he was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Thrall where he served the Church Council for 4 years. He was later a member of Memorial Baptist Church where he served on the Building and Grounds Committee. He always served with a happy heart.
Oscar is survived by his wife, LaRue, his children, Karen Dean (Randy), Cyndi Smith (Daine), Stephen Raesz (Shari). His grandchildren are Shelly Landreth, Michael Smith, Zachary Smith, Deanna Cheek, Scott Raesz, Danne O’Conner, and Cheryl Halley and 15 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother-in-law, Archie Moczygemba, and numerous other family members and friends.
Oscar is preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Augusta Raesz, wife Bonnie, brothers Louis, David and Edward, sisters Mary Moczygemba, Tillie Rummel, and Elizabeth Summers.
Visitation is planned for Thursday evening February 16 from 6 until 8 pm at Condra Funeral Home in Taylor, Tx. Celebration of Life is scheduled for Friday morning, February 17 at 10 am at Memorial Baptist Church, 340 West Lake Dr, Taylor. Michael Smith, Zach Smith, Scott Raesz, Ty Beseda, Mark Hoes and Doug Rummel will serve as pallbearers.
