“Tom” was born on February 10, 1931 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Tom’s early years he lived in Oklahoma, Arizona and New Mexico before his family settled in Kerrville, Texas. Tom graduated from Tivy High School, attended Schreiner Institute and went on to the University of Texas to graduate with a degree in Petroleum Engineering.
The U. S. Navy was a part of Tom life, with his ROTC scholarship it lead him to active duty in the U.S. Navy from January 1955 until January 1958. Tom was commissioned as a 1st Lt. on the “Destroyer Escort U.S.S. Willett”. Tom worked as a Petroleum Engineer for over 30 years. He retired from Mobil Oil Company in 1984.
He married Patricia Reed Westmoreland on January 30, 1955.

Tom was survived by his loving wife Pat of over 60 years. Also survived by sons,
Dr. John T. Hays, Jr. & Melanie Hays, Dr. Chris Hays, Sr., & wife Kim, Scott Hays & wife Wendy.
He was very proud of his grandchildren, Christopher Hays, Jr., Kayla Hays, Jake Hays and Jill, Quinn & Cole Brownfield. He is also survived by his sister Nancy Hays-Johnson and many numerous relatives.
Tom will always be remembered for his smiling face, his kind outgoing nature, his great sense of humor and his life stories, which he enjoyed telling in great detail.
Tom was laid to rest on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Taylor City Cemetery in Taylor, Texas.
