William J. Nogueira (Willie), 90, of Austin, Texas went home to be with our Lord on Thursday, December 28, 2023. Born and raised in Tampa to Willie A. Nogueira and Josephine Alfano Nogueira, he graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1951, then enrolled at the University of Florida.
In 1953 he joined the U.S. Air Force and served in Air Traffic Control during the Korean War while stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1957 and went back to school at the University of Florida. He graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. Willie worked as a pharmacist for 53 years, most of which was in a clinical setting serving the indigent at the Hillsborough County Hospital which was part of Tampa General Family Care Center. He retired from TGH in 1995. From 1984 to 2013 he also worked as a Consultant Pharmacist to the Crisis Stabilization Units at the Mental Health Center.
As a young man, he played saxophone in his high school band and continued on at the University of Florida in his freshman year playing in a dance band called Sal’s Rhythmic Tropicans. He loved God, light jazz, fishing, was an avid Florida Gators fan, enjoyed playing cards and dominoes, and watching western movies. Most of all, he was a family man who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Boggs Nogueira; daughter, Dr. Carrie Bonaroti; step-son, Scott Griffin; step-daughter, Dana Barnett; brother, Andrew Nogueira (wife Elizabeth); 5 granddaughters: Dr. Alisha Paranzino (husband, Dr. Marc Paranzino); Stephanie Bonaroti; Natalie Bonaroti; Karli Griffin; Ella Barnett; 3 grandsons: Tony Bonaroti (wife, Madison Bonaroti); Baylor Griffin; Logan Barnett; 1 great-grandson, Luca Paranzino; Brothers-in-law: Frank Boggs (wife Marlene); Jim Boggs (wife Suzy); Ben Boggs (wife Alison); and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 E. Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida from 5-7pm on Friday, January 12. Funeral mass will be held at 10:15am on Saturday, January 13, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 9715 N. 56th St., Temple Terrace, FL 33617.
