Virginia Bowen, known to many as Mickey, left to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, January 25th after a courageous health battle. She will be missed dearly by her son Steve and wife Sandi, daughter Robin Hart and husband Timothy, her grandchildren Jamie, Cecily, Adam and Carolyn, and great grandchildren, Summer and Faith. She is also survived by 4 siblings: Jimmy Rhodes (Sheila) RuthAnn Rhodes, Sonny Rhodes (Darlene), Lois Schmitt (Ron), and many nieces, nephews, and neighborhood cats that will miss the compassion she showed them.
Mickey treated everyone she met with a genuine kindness that left a lasting impression: to know her was to immediately love her. She built a life full of happiness and hobbies - she could bake nearly anything, and she certainly knew her way around a sewing machine - particularly when it involved a wedding dress for her daughter, or matching outfits for her grandchildren. She loved a lighthearted Hallmark movie, a Wednesday morning shopping trip, and a romantic novel. Mickey embarked on many cross-country adventures, including moves from her home state of West Virginia to El Paso, Texas, followed by Texas to Tampa, or vacations to see our country’s wonders with her sweetheart by her side. We know they are now reunited, starting a new adventure of their own together.
She is predeceased by her parents, and the love of her life, Sidney “Ray” Bowen, whom she was married to for 65 wonderful years.
Funeral Service will take place on Friday, January 29th at 2pm at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
