Bakie was born April 10th, 1945 in Peoria Illinois to Warren and Betty Smith. Sue grew up in Peoria and Evanston Illinois, and later Minneapolis. She had a close bond with her sister Sally & brother Steve and together they had the unique opportunity to cruise the country most summers while Warren was traveling with his work. This gave Sue the passion to travel. She went to University of Minnesota but cut college short to continue her desire to travel as a stewardess with Northwest Airlines. She traveled primarily to Asia & Hawaii and volunteered to work flights taking our soldiers to and from Vietnam.
Sue traded in her wings to get married and have her son Victor (Rooney) with then husband Hank Adams. Sue began her career in real estate when the family relocated to Florida and held her Broker’s license since 1974. In 1990 while managing a townhome project in Vero Beach FL, Sue met her current husband Rip Roup while taking tennis lessons. Sue helped Rip see the light that real estate might be a be a good fit for him too. Sue & Rip moved to Tampa in 1993 to be close to family.
Sue’s main loves were Christmas, listening to music & playing the organ, arts & crafts, Genealogy, shopping (Nordstroms), Disney, and mostly spending time with her family, especially her two grandsons Tyler and Christopher.
Sue always told the truth, even if it wasn’t what you’d like to hear! There was no sugar coating anything, and you’d always know where you stood with her. Bake’s words of encouragement, wisdom, and comfort, kept us in line and will be handed down to her loved ones.
Our Bakie will be sorely missed and in our minds she is irreplaceable. We will miss her indomitable spirit which provided all who loved her with Faith, Hope, Strength, and the Courage to get up and face each and every day with a smile. In a world of rapidly changing values, Bakie remained steadfast in hers. She was truly the Family Rock, our Queen Bee, and Head Chihuahua!
Bakie is survived by her loving husband Rip Roup, her devoted son Rooney Adams, daughter-in-law Shelley and grandsons Tyler and Christopher along with her siblings Sally Leonard, Steve Smith, and their families.
