Rolando Rodriguez, 86, of Tampa, Florida, passed away on February 13, 2023, in his hometown. Rolando was born a native Floridian living his childhood years in Ybor City and graduated from Jefferson High School. He was born December 31, 1936, to his parents Jose Ramon Rodriguez and Angelina Luz Benitez-Rodriguez.
A proud member of the United States military, Rolando served his country in both the National Guard and the Army. Following this service, he was a hometown hero for City of Tampa Fire Department, retiring his firefighting career as Chief Fire Marshal (second in command). Rolando’s service and commitment to family and others around him continued as he finished his education at the University of South Florida, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree – Education of Exceptional Students, 1991. A balance between career and family was of utmost importance to Rolando Rodriguez. Marrying his beloved wife on December 12, 1970, in Tampa, Florida, Rolando became the father of five children through a “his, hers, and ours” blending. Always supportive of the activities of his family, he attended many sports events, music events, school events, and graduations throughout his lifetime. If he could make it, Rolando would be there. Rolando also served his community during this balance as a coach, member of the homeowner’s association, member of his church, and event planning. Christmas Eve was known to be put aside for our patriarch, Rolando Rodriguez, by ALL family members.
Rolando Rodriguez is preceded in death by his parents, Jose Ramon Rodriguez and Angelina Luz Rodriguez-Benitez; and brother, Gilbert Rodriguez.
Rolando is survived by his wife, Margaret Rodriguez; Children: Nelson and MJ Rodriguez, Debi Rodriguez, Randy and Kim (Rodriguez) Willis, Edward and Sherry (Rodriguez) Craig, Rolando, Jr. and Sheri Rodriguez; Grandchildren: Catherine (Willis) McGetrick, Joshua Willis, Caleb Bone, Chelsi Rodriguez, Lindsay (Bone) Farnsworth, Ty Rodriguez, Jalyn Rodriguez; Great-grandchildren: Olivia McGetrick, Abigail McGetrick, Lorelei Willis.
Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, March 12, 2023 from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the Firefighters Museum, 720 East Zack Street, Tampa, FL 33602.
Memorials may be given to: Parkinson’s Foundation or Firefighter Museum
