To the family of Michael Hoerig,

As president of the NPC bodybuilding organization, please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of your son, Michael. I understand that Michael loved bodybuilding and had just recently competed in our organization hoping to one day step on the Olympia stage. He touched many lives with his passion to live a healthy life and to spread that word to as many people as he met. 

The NPC family will surely miss an athlete that represents what we strive for as an organization.

My deepest sympathy to all of the family...my heart breaks for all of yas...Michael was a wonderful young man, and his memory will be cherished...the picture was taken at Brunswick High School after his Balloon send off....I'm keeping all of yas in my thoughts and prayers....RIP Michael

This was our last moment together as we hugged and said our goodbyes with a smile. Our last conversation was about Jesus, and we always shared many laughs together. Johnny and I will always remember your words of encouragement to not only live healthy but to know that all things are possible if we put our mind to it.

I had the honor of calling Michael "one of my kids", as I was his Bartender Manager at Spunky Spirits. It was always a pleasure to work with Michael. He was an incredible selfless human being. I have many memories that will always stay with me about Michael. 

One night there were a bunch of us back at the Spunky shop unloading our gigs when a stranger walked up to one of the girls cars and begin rummaging through her trunk. Michael was the ring leader in grabbing all the girls and telling us to get behind the gate - trying to keep us safe. I always looked up to him for doing that. 

When Michael first started working for Spunky, there was an event where we were all packing up our stuff, there was a girl about my age (late 30's) who had plenty to drink crushing on Michael so hard and we were all laughing knowing full well we should get him out of this situation. But, as any good manager would do, I said out loud in front of him and the girl - "Michael, you're good standing here with her, we will pack up". I'll never forget the look on his face to me. I just smiled back:) Yes, I eventually got him out of the awkward situation. That boy handled himself like a champ per usual:) 

Perhaps the last time I saw Michael in person was at our annual Spunky Christmas in July party at Knotted Roots. I hadn't seen Michael in a few months. He walked over to me with a HUGE smile on his face and said "Aly, I want you to meet my girlfriend, Maria". I will never forget the look on his face and how proud he was to have her on his arm. I felt honored he wanted me to meet her. That's the relationship I try to build with "my kids" and that showed me I did that with him. 

Michael was the first to grab anyones ice for them (me included) and help anyone however they needed it. He was the most stand up dude and at only 20 years old - I was always impressed by him. Michaels name will never be forgotten and to be more like him should be anyones goal.

Michael was a caring and passionate young man who always took the time to lend a listening ear and provide a helping hand.  It was a pleasure knowing and working with him,. It saddens my heart about his tragic loss. His memory will live on in the many lives that he touched.


My deepest condolences to the Hoerig Family. I don't know Gina personally, but she is part of our team, so I consider her family. If you need anything, please reach out to me

My prayers and thoughts are with your family. Michael was a great guy and an inspiration in the gym. He was always there to offer an opinion and helping hand. I am so sorry for your loss, my heart is broken for you all.

To my beautiful Michael… It’s an extraordinary thing to have met someone like you. To love you and to have been loved by you was like knowing the moon, the stars, and the  sun. Your presence felt like home. I am eternally grateful for the memories we shared and the friendship that existed between us. You were nothing short of a beautiful phenomenon that will continue to live on through the ones who love you. I love you forever Michael.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. His friends and family that made Michael into the man he was. I am thankful he was welcomed into such a loving community when he moved. He was such an amazing, fun and loving guy and I am so heartbroken that we was taken from this world. His words and wisdom and the care he had to better peoples lives will never be forgotten. 

Rest in peace Michael. Until we meet again. 

This is me yelling at michael to smile because he thought it was “cool” to straight face 

i was going on vacation the next day and he said to me “who am i gonna pick on in steinmetz class while you’re gone” 

we were such babies mike… This is when you told me about your dreams and started going to the gym. i wish we can go back and i could tell you how proud i am of you. 

Michael grew up in the house behind us in Brunswick, OH so we've known him since he was born.  Cody and Ben went to the Hoerig house in the mornings for a while so they could walk to school with Jessica.  Ben believes that he taught Michael to walk during that time.  

Sometimes I looked out the back door and would see Michael walking around his pond and looking at the fish.  As he got older he would come over and I remember one time he was interested in my planting and he helped out.  After one of our parties, he helped clean up because he wanted to collect the cans for his Grandma.  

He was a great kid and a terrific young man and will be greatly missed by all.  It is wonderful that he was able to donate his organs to help others.  

Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.

Michael last night I was looking up at the sky for you having a conversation with our creator. I started to laugh thinking about you and some memories and it made me feel better. the bond I had with you can’t be replaced. I’ll get to tell my kids story’s about uncle Michael the muscle man. You were the best friend anybody could ask for Michael and I wouldn’t change our friendship For anything. Michael was a mentor to many and he was a great man. His dedication was unlike anybody els I have ever seen. When Michael set his mind to something he would conquer it no matter how long it would take him. I love you Michael. And you will always be in my family’s heart as well as mine. Forever
