Mercedes Hevia-Gonzalez, age 95 of Tampa Florida passed away November 8, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Havana Cuba on November 2, 1929 and emigrated to the United States in the early 60’s. After retirement as an accountant for the USF Grants Department, she was a lifelong volunteer at St. Lawrence Catholic Church as well as other Tampa parishes. She was the founder of Charismatic Prayer Groups at Incarnation, St. Lawrence and OLPH and in 2011 received the Diocese of St. Petersburg’s Recognition of Excellence Award as the Treasurer of the Charismatic Renewal. Mercy was very fashionable, a sharp dresser, enjoyed cooking, dancing, painting, arts and crafts, bingo, domino games with friends, watching the Rays and Lightning, scratch-off lottery tickets and most of all her family.
Mercy was the daughter of Maria Luisa Abreu-Hevia and Simon Hevia LeMaire, she was predeceased by Manuel (Manny) Gonzalez, her brother Felix (Felo), his wife Bertha, her sister Miriam and her husband Fernando.
She is survived by her daughter Anne-Marie Allen, husband John and her sister Rosario (Charo) and her husband Manolo.
Nieces and Nephews including, Maria Eugenia, Fernando and husband Bill, Carlos (Carlitos) and wife Shelia, Manolo (Manolito) and wife Mylena, Jorge and wife Almudena, Rosita and husband Gilberto, Vicky and husband Fernando and Alicia and her husband Jamie Eduardo.
Great-Nieces and Nephews including Juan Sebastin (Chicho) and Maria Fernanda (Beba), Jamie Eduardo (Chimo), Andres, and Jimena, Sara and Raymond, Maria Carla, Elizabeth (Lizzy) and Gilberto Jr. (Gilbertico), and Jerusalem.
Grandchildren including Lisa and husband Gilford and Alesha and her husband Ben, Great-Grand Children, Clark, Hudson, Emma and Lili.
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 18th at St. Lawrence Catholic Church beginning at 10:00am, followed by Mass at 11:00 and the burial at Garden of Memories at 4207 E. Lake Avenue after the service.
