Matthew Scott Coleman

Matthew Scott David Coleman, 37, of Lakeland, passed away on September 15th, 2021 in Lakeland, Fl. Matt was born in Lakeland, Fl to David and Kathy Coleman on August 27th, 1984. He attended and graduated from Lakeland Christian School. He then went on to study at the University of South Florida where he received a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration and a minor in Criminology. After college, Matt enrolled in the police academy at HCC and, after completion, went to work for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office where he served as a Patrol Deputy and a Detective with the Special Victims Unit. After serving with Polk County for 6 years, Matt was hired by the Tampa Police Department where he worked as a Patrol Officer and Field Training Officer for 7 years. Throughout his time at TPD, Matt trained several new officers and was highly revered by his colleagues as an excellent FTO.

Matt is preceded in life by grandfathers, uncles and aunts, and most recently by his beloved cousin, Mark Cook.

Matt is survived by his Wife, Rhiannon, Daughters Olivia and Alice, his parents, David and Kathy Coleman, sister Randi Purcell (Nathan) and many other family members that Matt loved and cherished.

Pallbearers will be the Tampa Police Department Honor Guard.

A private funeral will be held for family, invited friends and the local law enforcement community. A private graveside service for family will occur at a later date.
