A devoted husband, father, and super fun papa unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord on October 2, 2024. Larry was born and raised in Tampa, FL, and graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1977 where he excelled in baseball. At the age of 16, he began working at Circle Auto Service, Inc. in Tampa. This business later changed to Square Deal Battery and was his only place of employment where many in the community got to know him.
Larry was an active member at First Baptist Church of Lutz where he met his wife, Beth. His relationship with the Lord and his family was most important to him. He cherished time with family and lived his life creating memories and adventures with them - all while making sure everyone ate well!! He loved trying new restaurants and his saying was, “You can only hate it once or it will be your new favorite.” He was an amazing cook and grill master as well as a coffee aficionado - his homemade cafe con leches were unmatched. Anyone he met, quickly realized that he was kind, humble, and generous. He is an unforgettable man.
He loved camping, traveling and boating with his family. Any free time he had, he would ride dirtbikes with his grandkids with his wife following on her 4-wheeler. Helping others came naturally to him, and he served others continuously. He cared for his friends as if they were family. In heaven, he joins his father, Herman Calhoun, his mother, Gladys Wheeler Calhoun, his brother, Jerry Calhoun, and Oscar J. Alvarez of Square Deal Battery, who was like a father to him. He is survived by his wife, Beth Calhoun, Daughters, Lindsey Gloger (Ryan), Lacey Haker (Josh), Allyson Kehoe (Jaymes), and Sarah Stinson (Aaron), and Son, Andrew McNutt. Grandchildren: Clayton, Carli, Colton, Bennett, Weston, Grayson, Liam, Everett, Sloan, Kassidy, Genevieve, Cambrie, and Grandpup, Riley. Brother, Terry Calhoun (Pam), Sister, Gail Daniels (Doug), Brother, Joel Calhoun (Bonnie), and many nieces and nephews who he loved. He leaves an amazing legacy and will be deeply missed by all.
A celebration of life will be held at his home church - First Baptist Church of Lutz on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. Visitation will begin at 10 am followed by the service at 11 am. Fellowship and food will follow. There will be a private burial of ashes to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart for Home Campus Revitalization Fund of First Baptist Church of Lutz. https://giving.myamplify.io//app/giving/lutzfbc
