Joseph Matthew Wright

Joseph Matthew Wright "Joe" passed away at his son Joseph’s home in Tallahassee, Florida on April 14, 2023, at the age of 93 surrounded by his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Emma Jean, his brother Herbert, his sisters Leona Wright and Hilda Longworth, and his sons Herbert “Nick” Wright and David Lorne Wright.

He is survived by his daughter Deborah Gunter, his son Joseph Wright and his wife Margaret "Peggy", his stepson Michael Sheridan and his wife Kimalyn, his stepson Patrick Sheridan, his stepson Marvin Owens and his wife Darlene, and his stepdaughter Wanda Smith. Joe also has 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 25 great-great grandchildren.

Joe was born in Tampa, Florida to Joseph Horace and Anna Wright. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Corporal Joseph Wright was part of Company C 315th Signal Corps. After returning from the military, Joe worked at Ybor City’s Standard Cigar company for over 40 years, where he met and married the love of his life Emma Jean. Joe and Emma Jean later retired to Ruskin, Florida where they enjoyed fishing and spending time with friends and family for over 30 years.

Funeral Services will be held April 25, 2023 at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 E. Lake Ave., Tampa, Florida, 33610. Visitation will be at 11:30am, with Services beginning at 12 noon.
