Jorge Tiburcio Rodriguez

Jorge "Chichi" was the youngest of three siblings born in his home in Habana, Cuba. His parents are Jose and Josefina Rodriguez. His siblings are Silvia and Jose. He was employed in a car garage where he met his wife Maria Nelia “Jauchoy” Rodriguez. The two later married on May 19th, 1956. Jorge and his wife migrated to Tampa in 1968 with their 4 children George, Maria Cristina and her husband Charlie, Sonia and Miriam. In arriving to Florida he was employed at multiple jobs in efforts to provide a stable life for his family. He was able to receive his CDL certification and his career began at Bay/National Distributor on December 4th, 1968. In 1980, the youngest child was born Maria Milagros. He retired from his job on September 1st, 1999. He was also a part of the Cuban Civic Club and was an active member of St. Joseph’s Parish. He was the proud grandfather of 8 grandchildren: Tony Diaz Jr, Brian Jones, Keith Diaz, Zachary Rodriguez, Gabriela Rodriguez, Patrick Davis Jr., and Kaleigh Davis. Sadly, he was predeceased by his grandson Gilbert Randolph “Randy” Jones. In addition to his grandchildren he was a great grandfather to 8 great grandchildren: Ava, Sophia, AJ, Isaiah, Brooklyn, Elizabeth, Riley and Evan.

A special thank you goes out to his Brother-in-law Eduardo for being here every day as a support to him and to his family. The family would like to thank EMPATH and Hospice for the time, care and dedication that they gave to Jorge T. Rodriguez. The time and care provided to him was appreciated and shown both to him and to his family.

On his 90th birthday there was a celebration with family and friends, from as far as Mexico to those here in Tampa, who attended the celebration making it a great reunion.

A funeral mass for Jorge will be held Friday, September 13, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 5225 N Himes Ave, Tampa, FL 33614. Following the funeral mass will be a committal service at 12:00 PM at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4207 E. Lake Ave, Tampa, Tampa, FL 33610.
