Jo Ann Littrell passed away at the age of 86 on Monday, October 30, 2023. Jo Ann was born in Moulton, AL on November 15, 1936 to Kelly and Josephine Littrell, and raised alongside her beloved brothers Tommy Littrell, William Littrell (deceased), and Larry Littrell. Jo Ann raised her boys, William (Billy) Hefflin Rawls (deceased) and Thomas (Tommy) Fitzhugh Rawls (deceased) on Lake Calm in Odessa, FL. Jo Ann was a passionate and competitive tennis player at Carrollwood Country Club until the age of 85, which included the same ladies tennis group for 35 years. Jo Ann had a lifelong friend group originally formed as a monthly Supper Club from the parents in Odessa, of which they still gather on the 2nd Saturday of each month for 45 years. Jo Ann attended Montevallo Women’s College, then transferred and graduated from Birmingham Southern with a degree in Sociology. Jo Ann worked in Hillsborough County as a social worker and then as a paralegal for Bay Area Legal Services in Tampa for 22 years until the age of 72, serving the underprivileged. Jo Ann was a sports enthusiast for Tampa Bay sporting teams but especially for the Alabama Crimson Tide football team, rarely missing a televised game and never missing the opportunity to discuss Alabama and SEC football with her son, Tommy. She was a member of Bay Hope Church and a charter member of Keystone Methodist Church, where her family attended with her previous husband, Fitzhugh Lee Rawls. In her free time, she enjoyed reading countless books, a glass of wine, and spending time with her family. She was uniquely particular, fiercely independent and had her own sense of style that she wore well into her late years. Her unfailing love and generosity to her family and love and loyalty to her friends will always be cherished.
Jo Ann is preceded by her parents, Kelly and Josephine Littrell, brother, William Littrell (deceased), sons, William “Billy” Rawls (deceased) and Thomas “Tommy” Rawls (deceased) and survived by her brothers, Tommy Littrell (Anne Littrell) and Larry Littrell (Ann Littrell), daughter in law, Johna Rawls (Tommy Rawls), and grandchildren, Fitzhugh Rawls and Madeline Rawls.
