Jesse Peter Madsen, 45 of Wesley Chapel passed away on March 9, 2021 in the line of duty. He was born September 17, 1975 in Cleveland, Ohio, adopted by Bruce Madsen at the age of 6 months. The youngest of 3 adopted children, Jesse graduated from Shaker Heights High School.
Jesse joined the United States Marines in 1994 and earned the position of sniper. He excelled in this area and was chosen to be a firearms instructor. He served 3 tours in Afghanistan and suffered serious injury when an improvised explosive device exploded under his Humvee. He recovered from his injuries and completed his obligation.
Jesse attended Cuyahoga Community College Police Academy and earned his law enforcement certification. He worked for the Lyndhurst and Shaker Heights Police Departments in Ohio. He then applied to the Tampa Police Department and was hired in 2004. Master Police Officer Madsen served throughout the City of Tampa in a variety of assignments, including: Patrol, Street Anti-Crime (S.A.C.)., and, as a member of the Honor Guard. He was a highly decorated officer. Jesse earned numerous Excellent Duty Awards and seven Life Saving Awards. Due to his latest act of heroism, MPO Madsen is recognized with his eighth Life-Saving Award, as well as the Police Purple Shield and the Medal of Honor. His family will receive the Tampa Police Department’s Gold Cross in recognition of his selfless act of heroism.
Jesse is survived by his wife Danyelle Madsen and has 3 children: Carter, Kellan, and Kenley. He also leaves behind his parents Bruce and Julie Madsen, brothers Joshua Madsen and Charlie Fiordalis. Sisters Ruth Madsen, Katie Fiordalis, and Millicent Gilmore. His mother-in-law Robin Moore and sister-in-law Jenelle Goodrick along with many extended family members.
Funeral Services for Jesse will be held at Idlewild Baptist Church, 18333 Exciting Idlewild Blvd, Lutz, Florida on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at 11:00 am. He will receive full honors. Following the service, he will be interred at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida in a private ceremony.
