On Friday, March 13, 2020, James “Jim” Hugh Roland of Tampa, FL sadly lost his battle with ALS. Jim was born in Baltimore, MD on January 24, 1955 to James and Rita Roland. He married his childhood sweetheart, Alice Lynn Tyson in 1975. They enjoyed nearly 50 years together, raising three amazing children, Cristina Lynn Roland, Nicholas Tyson Roland, and Lindsay Anne Sestillio. Jim worked as a software development manager for the same company his entire working life. After his diagnosis in 2015, his company, InFor, rallied behind him, forming a close bond with his family and friends to raise money and awareness for this terrible disease. Jim’s life was full of travel and excitement. He traveled to over 20 countries, often with his entire family. Jim enjoyed spending time with his six grandchildren: Lucy Marie Roland, Madison Abigail Cox, Ethan James Cox, Opal Michelle Roland, James Anthony Sestillio and Stephen Vincent Sestillio. He will be remembered as one of the kindest, sweetest, and selfless men to have honored our lives. Those who knew him know he was a “tinker,” always in the garage fixing or building something. Every challenge in his life was met with creativity and a sense of humor. The private celebration of life will be held at Blount & Curry Funeral Home - MacDill Chapel, 605 South MacDill Avenue. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the ALS Association. Jim’s youngest daughter, Lindsay, is going to run the New York City Marathon this November with Team ALS in her father’s honor. If you would like to sponsor her in tribute, please visit http://webgny.alsa.org/goto/LindsaySestilio.
