The husband of Janet Stout Toms, Bert was born Herbert Henry Toms III. He was the son of Herbert “Big Bertie” and Margaret (McGhee) Toms, arriving in the world on January 25, 1949 in Glasgow, Scotland.
He is the father to five children; Michelle Toms (Scott) Schroll, Sharon Toms (Bobby) Ridenour and Christopher James Toms, Laura Vigil (Chad) Roark and Loretta Vigil (Brett) Lemoine.
Grandchildren include: Trace (Dallas) Wilson, Bobby Ridenour III, Caitlyn Ridenour, Tyler Jacob Lemoine, Bailey Ryan Lemoine, Stuart Vernon Roark and Great-Grandchild, Sawyer Kate Wilson.
He is survived by his brother, James McGhee (Maureen) Toms and a host of family and friends who will mourn this loss.
Bert, a graduate of Anniesland College in 1970, began his career in Naval Architecture. Immigrating to America in 1974, he worked for 42 years in the consulting engineering field in Baton Rouge as a Civil/Structural designer, retiring from H&K Engineering in 2016.
Bert expressed his creativity in his hobbies of playing music and writing songs and stories.
His love for all things tropical included his Trop Rock choice of music and the joy of living at his condo in Feather Sound, Florida among the palm trees.
Always looking for the humor in all things he lived his life with a positive attitude and will be deeply missed.
Funeral Services will be held at Garden of Memories in Tampa, Florida.
Celebration of life ceremony will be held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Date and time to be announced.
