Gregory E. Ashby

Gregory Edmond Gerald Ashby, (82), affectionately known as “Bali”, was born on March 22, 1941, in Belize City, Belize to the late Perfurio Ashby and Beryl Hulse. Gregory transitioned from life to his eternal rest on Sunday, April 23, 2023 surrounded by his children and loved ones. He was educated at St. Mary school in Belize City, Belize. Bali came to the United States wanting more in life than what he had in Belize. Once he permanently moved to the United States, he married wife Mamie Ruth Washington Ashby.

In his adult life he had a passion for boats, fishing, cooking, and travel that led him to an enjoyable life as an Outboard Mechanic, Shipwright, and Carpenter. He was an incredible craftsman, building boats, furniture, cabinets, and even home additions for his family. In his spare time, Bali loved travelling to various countries around the world with his wife Mamie by his side. He was featured for his catch of a Wahoo in an International Game Fish Association tournament. He was also an active participant in the Annual Gourmet Gents Culinary Premier scholarship fundraiser hosted by the NCBW100 where he was able to feature his love of cooking seafood. Bali accepted Christ and was a member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. church where he actively participated in various activities and fellowshipped with his church family. Everywhere he went he made a friend and he lived life to the fullest.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mamie Washington Ashby; Parents, Perfurio and Beryl; Siblings, Geraldine, Carl, and Derek; Children, Greta Lee, Gregario “Mundo”, Karla, and Jimmy; and Grandchildren, Sherlock, and Jerome Sr.

Bali is survived by his children; Julie Hemsley, Beryl Syfox (Sherlock), Lenina Bennett (Kenneth), Donna Whittaker, Monica Bonilla, Duane Ashby (Damaris), Derrick Ashby (Donna), Preston Ashby (Tisa), Sharlyn Moore (Albert), Harlan (Dilcia), Danita Ashby, Jasmine Belton (Marlon), Akilah Allen, Sindy Guenot and Siblings; Coralee Elrington (Hubert), and Sandra Carney; Grandchildren: Jamie, Noah, Jonah, Nylah, Gregory “Jojo”, Samuel, Lorraine, Dinsdale, Shaien, Torya, Daryl, Ellioth, Sherese, Amber, Gregory, Nyah, Antonio, Liz, Gilbert, Angelica (Kenny), Armand, Jasmine, Quantasia (Rico), Preston Jr., De’Von, Xavier, Bryce, Audry, Angelly, Aileen, Akivius, Kiara, Justin, Denilson and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many sorrowing friends.
