This big-hearted, loving woman and beloved family member was born August 30, 1940 in Ponce, Puerto Rico to Jose Jacinto Cordero Garcia and Ofelia Alers Sellas.
In 1959, Evelyn graduated from Doctor Pala High School and in 1962 from San Lucas Nursing School. After graduation from nursing school, she moved to Arroyo, Puerto Rico After some time, Evelyn moved to San Juan to live with her mother and sister, Tallie.
Evelyn was definitely the caretaker and matriarch of the family. With her mother, she helped raise four nieces and nephews. During this time, Evelyn began college for her B.S. in Nursing, graduating four years later from The Inter-American University of Puerto Rico. In 1982, this group joined other family members in Rapid City, South Dakota where they were to all stay for several years and were she worked as a nurse at the Hot Springs V.A. Medical Center. Evelyn relocated to Tampa, Florida in 1988, to be closer to Puerto Rico. She was employed as a case manager for the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa, Florida until her retirement. In her final years, she has lived at Alimar Assisted Living. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to…. and ….. and other staff members who took such loving care of her.
Our sweet "Titi" Evelyn was predeceased by her parents and three siblings: Jose Jacinto "Papo" Cordero, Migdalia Dolores "Tallie" Cordero, and Elmer Benigno Cordero. She lost her fun-loving nephew, Gus Cordero, earlier this year.
Evelyn is survived by a host of extended family members including Dylan (Dawn) Cordero, Chris Cordero, Dali (Bryan) Cordero, Joe Cordero (Julie), Stephen Cordero, Irmarie (Roberto), Liza Cordero, Schannelle Parker, and numerous others.
