Elaine Hixon Johnson, passed away unexpectedly on December 30, 2022 in Tampa, FL at the age of 83. Elaine is survived by her daughter Cindy (Jim) Schwefel of Fishers, IN and grandsons Alex and Josh. She is preceded in death by her father former Tampa Mayor Curtis Hixon, mother Lila Hixon Morgan and sister JoAnn Shell.
Elaine was born on July 3, 1939 in Tampa, FL. She graduated from Plant High School in 1957 and Sophie Newcomb College in 1961, where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. Elaine was an accomplished tennis player, winning several championships in her teens and into her thirties. She later took up golf which she was just as passionate about. Elaine was a school teacher for several years before becoming a stay at home mother. She loved to travel and spend time with family, especially her grandsons. A private service will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in her name to the Humane Society.
