Rick was born in Ft. Benning, GA to Donald Hufstetler and Antoniette" Toni" Zsohar on August, 19th, 1962.
At the time of his death, Rick worked for AtriCure as a Senior Fellow in Professional Education. Throughout his nine years at AtriCure Rick taught colleagues and physicians, worldwide, to treat cardiac patients. He developed the CADet, a synthetic cadaver, as an innovative teaching tool, which revolutionized education methods. This is one of Rick's lasting legacies.
Prior to AtriCure, Rick worked for 15 years at Tampa General Hospital. He was a cardiac surgery PA and oversaw cardiovascular OR and eventually the inclusion of all transplants across cardiac, thoracic, liver, and kidney specialties.
His dedication to improving lives was evident in everything he did. His tireless work ethic, and profound empathy, kindness, and positivity made him not only a colleague but a friend to all.
Rick is survived by daughter Amber (Derek), and sons Keith (Emily) and Blake. Sisters Tina Worrall and Donna Colvin (Tim). Father Donald Hufstetler (Millie) and Mother Toni Zsohar (Michael). Niece Caitlyn Colvin (Evan) and dog Maggie.
Rick's love of life gave him a wonderful nature about him. He did things passionately and willingly in all aspects of everything he was involved with, including family, gardening, sports, helping others, and being creative with home projects. If he had time he was there.
Rick was a loving father, son, and brother as well as a cherished friend to so many. He made a profound impact on anyone who had the honor to know him and to know him was to love him. His sense of humor, infectious laugh, and trademark smile made him prolific at telling dad jokes (some would say bad jokes). His competitive spirit was truly evident whether playing cards or games with the family or watching the Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Tampa Bay Lightning. He liked winning!
Celebration of Life will be held on September 14, 2024.
The family of Rick wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the medical teams at Moffitt Cancer Institute, Encompass Rehabilitation Hospital, North Tampa, and Advent Health Hospital North.
