Barbara Jean Becraft passed away on December 4, 2022 in Tampa, FL after bravely battling cancer for three years. She was born on November 22, 1968 in Miami, FL to William Roberts and Violet Kopcik. After moving several times in her youth, she graduated from Hackettstown High School, NJ in June of 1986. Though school was not her passion, she soon found what was to be her calling when she enlisted in the Air Force in September of 1987.
The military allowed Barbara to showcase her innate leadership skills and she excelled from the start. She was extremely proud of the craft she had mastered as a Non-Destructive Inspection technician on multiple aircraft in the Air Force inventory. She used these talents during multiple overseas deployments, which included Operation Desert Storm and many others in that region of the world. Her time in the service allowed her to teach and mentor young Airmen and touch the lives of so many over the years.
It was during her time in the service she met the love of her life, David Becraft. They were married on July 13, 2002 and spent the next twenty years working together to build an amazing life and family. Her greatest pride and joy were her two handsome and talented sons, Dylan and Jeremy. She lived to watch them grow, learn, strive and succeed.
Barbara was a kind, generous and compassionate woman who would do anything to help her family, friends or even a stranger she thought was in need. She will be desperately missed by all those that she has left behind. Our hearts are broken by this unexpected loss. She was one of a kind and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed.
Barbara was preceded in death by her father, William Roberts. She is survived by her husband, David Becraft, two sons, Dylan and Jeremy Becraft, and her mother, Violet Torgersen.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Blount and Curry Funeral Home (605 S MacDill Ave, Tampa, FL 33609) on Monday, December 19 from 3:00 – 6:00 pm. Military Funeral Honors will be held at the Florida National Cemetery (6502 SW 102d Ave, Bushnell, FL 33513) on Tuesday, December 20 at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Moffitt Cancer Center.
