Alejandro, fondly known as Leo, was born to Dolores Gonzalez and Flor Vazquez, on May 2, 1931, in Ciales, Puerto Rico. He was a long-term resident of The Terrace of Kissimmee in Kissimmee, Florida where he passed away surrounded by staff and family that loved him. During his time at the nursing home, he was like the ambassador of the center greeting everyone and dancing in the hallways. He was known for his friendly wave and saying "hola" to all he saw. He could be found on sunny days sitting in the courtyard working on word searches and enjoying the warmth of the Florida sun.
The family wishes to acknowledge the loving care of his daughter, Myriam over the years, who took care of him, visiting him daily and cooking homemade meals because he preferred her cooking over the nursing home food. Also a special thank you to Rosely Reyes, who was more than a nurse to him at the nursing home. She became like family and our dad loved her very much. He used to say she was his favorite nurse and would feel comforted when she was present.
His favorite role was being a father. He loved nothing more than spending time with family. He worked two jobs until he retired and moved from Long Island, New York to Florida. He loved going to the gym and attending Zumba classes. But most of all, he was passionate about his faith and loved the church family.
Alejandro, who was a widow, is survived by two daughters, Myriam and Carmen (Larry) Vasey. He is also survived by his sister, Ana Dely (William) along with 6 grandchildren, Jose, Sujeis, Eric, Yolanda, Marlene, Emmanuel, 18 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Alejandro will be held Monday, March 18, 2024 at 1:00pm, with a funeral service at 2:00pm at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33610. A committal service will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33610.
