Marie Shakespeare Hunter, age 63, of Lauderhill, Florida, peacefully transitioned on Saturday, December 7th, 2024.
Marie was born September 15th, 1961 to Roy L. Hunter and Alda Allen in Kingston, Jamaica. Marie came to America to make a better life for herself and her five children. Despite all adversities, she showed true resilience and courage to face each struggle. Marie is revered as a pillar of strength, bravery, and unyielding love. She brought an undeniably loving spirit filled with laughter, endless jokes, and true friendship. Her reach was as far as it was wide, and she was cherished deeply by many.
Marie was a compassionate, honest person with strong moral principles. She would always say, “ You need to have your head on your body”, meaning in everything you do, do with integrity and meticulousness. She was slow to anger and had a Christ-like forgiving spirit. She was extremely funny and couldn’t hide her facial expressions if you paid her too. She also had a serious side and didn't like a lot of foolishness that might hurt those she loved, but if you needed her, she was there.
Along with her many life accomplishments she worked for the city of Miramar for 20 years. Starting in early childhood at The Civic Center, then transitioned to Park and Recreation at Sunset Lakes and Youth Enrichment Center. During this time, the City of Miramar staff became her extended family.
Marie loved the Lord, her family, traveling, crossword puzzles, and African movies. Her favorite quotes were, “The Lord will fight all my battles” and “ The Lord doesn’t give you more than you can bear.” She loved attending Redeemed Pilgrims Ministries International, where faith and the amazing hand of God showed her a good servant.
Marie’s absence has left a vacancy that nothing can fulfill. She influenced our lives in a way words cannot express, the impact of her presence will forever be missed.
She is survived by her five(5) children, Caleb Nelson, Narda Nelson, Wiha Powell, Lorevea Simmons, and Ladinaka Samuels. Three(3) grandchildren Annesh Francis, Aiden Irving, Chrisilla Nelson, and Great-Grandchild A’mira Alexander. Her siblings Lambert Hunter, Margaret Hunter, Danny Hunter, William Hunter, and John.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents Roy and Alda, and her brothers Robert Hunter, and Ralston Hunter.
