Glaister Roy Newman, “Breda, Uncle Roy, Pastor, Daddy” as he was affectionately called was the third of six children born in the family of Hilda and Levi Newman. What a beautiful and sunny day that 30thMay 1942, must have been, because we have come to love a very humorous man.
He grew up and went to school in Point Hill, St. Catherine. At a very early age, he was “Born again” or converted, and experienced the “Call of God” on his life. As a result of which, he went for pastoral training at his Church’s Training Institute, Bethel Bible College for four years and graduated in 1965.
As a young preacher, he did evangelistic work among the churches. It was during this time that he was asked to do some meetings in Higgin Land, St. Ann. As he ministered and was kindly offered sincere hospitality, he met this beautiful young lady, whom he later told that the Lord had shown her to him in a dream, to be his wife. He developed a good relationship with her family and not long after he asked for her hand in marriage. It is from this union, with the beautiful Rosie, that five lovely children came. They are all here today and is expecting to meet their Daddy in “The Sweet By and By”.
Rev. Newman was a loving father, who would do all in his power to educate them very well and desired that they succeed. He made sure that he exemplified what a Christian man should be and had all his children at church where he ministered to various congregations.
He was a very faithful and caring husband to Carmen Rose whom he affectionately called “Rosie”. Consequently, she ministered with him in the many churches in which he served all over Jamaica and in the United States of America. Rev. Newman was a true servant of God.
“Through many dangers, toils and snares, he has already come”.
We do not mourn as those who have no hope but, His loving wife Rosie, children Sharon,
Charmaine, Pauline, Glaister Jr, Marlene, grand-children Wayne, Bianca, Annabelle, Olivia and his
great -grand-children, Joshua, Dwight, Gabriella and daughter-in-law Isabel, his brothers,
sisters, other family members, and a large church family are waiting to meet him around the
throne of God.
May his soul rest in peace and perpetual light shine on him.
